Adolfo Rafael de Roodt was born January 13, 1960 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is a medical veterinary who obtained his title in 1988 in the School for Veterinary Sciences from Buenos Aires University (UBA). He obtained a PhD in Immunology from the Pharmaceutical and Biochemical School of the UBA in 2002 and a master’s in molecular microbiology from San Martin University (2009).
His line of work and research is the study of animal venoms and their anti-venoms, especially related to snakes, scorpions and spiders. He has developed several anti-venoms some of which are presently used therapeutically. He is the author of more than 70 papers in scientific magazines and over 150 communications in scientific meetings. He has also written several specialized book chapters regarding these themes.
He has and still dictates seminars and conferences on poisoning by poisonous animals (*and*) related topics in Argentina and other countries.
At present he works on animal venoms and their antidotes in the National Administration of Health Laboratories and Institutes from the National Health Ministry, and also in the School forMedicine of UBA where he is head of the Toxinopathology Lab from the Experimental and Applied Pathology Center. He is in constant exchange with foreign institutions being a member of the International Society for Toxinology.
At present he also is director of the magazine Acta Toxinologica Argentina.
He worked several years as a musician playing the violin, that helped him get his first academical degree. Presently, he still finds time in his multiple activities to keep his musical activity although now, just for the joy of doing it.
